Venerable Solanus Casey was a remarkable man for his time and our own, not because he was a genius or a superhero. He is a remarkable man because he humbly placed all his trust in God’s love and mercy, allowing God to work wonderful deeds through him.

Venerable Solanus Casey was a beloved Capuchin friar credited with miraculous cures and valued for his wise and compassionate counsel. He faithfully served the people of God at Saint Bonaventure Monastery through twenty-one fruitful years; he provided soup for the hungry, kind words for the troubled and a healing touch for the ill.

Saving Chevrolet in Detroit

In 1925, orders for new cars dropped sharply and hundreds of thousands of workers were without a paycheck. One of Detroit’s largest employers, Chevrolet, was hit particularly hard by the sharp drop in orders. John McKenna, an employee at Chevrolet feared that he was about to lose his job and came to see Father Solanus. He asked Father Solanus to enroll the company in the Seraphic Mass Association and Father Solanus agreed. Two nights later McKenna returned with surprising news that the company had an order for 45,000 machines wanted in 30 days. The company was saved and so were the employees.

Peace Treaty

During World War II, Father Solanus enrolled the USS Missouri (BB-63) in the Seraphic Mass Association. The Peace Treaty between Japan and United States was signed on this ship, which ended World War II on September 2, 1945.
