Sunday, January 29 - Holy Heroes in our Midst
Dr. William Anderson and capuchin, Matthew Gottchalk were the guest speakers chosen to bring to life the Civil Rights struggle and its spiritual power.

The Soup Kitchen Choir began the presentation with passionate singing!

Dr William Anderson offered many exciting stories and thoughts.


The audience was intrigued.

The Church was crowded with active listeners.


People explored the Center before the Presentation.

Lots of interesting sites to see. Volunteer John Luibrand offered directions.

The Hall of Saints led people into the Church.

Docent Peggy Stanton greeted the crowd.

Our Lady of Hope Adult Dance and Repertory Company presented a touching Advent Choral Meditation.

Fr Jim narrated the meditation with selections from scripture.

Angel Gabriel visited Zacharias

Zacharias was struck dumb.

Angel Gabriel visited Mary.

Angel Gabriel visited Joseph.

He told Joseph to not be afraid.

The choir provided reflective music.

The choir really brought the emotional aspect of the readings to life.

Mary waited patiently throughout her life for Jesus to complete His mission.

Jesus was crucified on the cross and the angels held him.



Following the Concert there was a great feast in the dining room put on by the Secular Fransicans.

The homemade cookies were quite tasty.

The Christmas tree provided the perfect background for the celebration.


People stayed and enjoyed the goodies.

The dining room was full and filled with happy people.


Larry and Doris were enjoying the afternoon.

Advent Series: Mass at Noon followed by a simple soup lunch and a reflection.

Many people are finding the series a helpful way to enrich their Advent experience.

Anne is one of our dedicated volunteers who serves soup to our guests on Wednesdays.

Our two guests, Maryanna and Mary, share their thoughts and stories of faith over a bowl of hot chicken tortellini soup.

The children were attentive.

It was a spiritual alternative to Santa Claus.

St Nicholas asked the boys and girls to love Jesus especially at His birthday time.

A surprise visit from Fr. Solanus delighted the children.

Ss. Aloysius and Patrick held their Fall Retreat Day at the Solanus Center on Saturday, Nov. 13.

Fr. Jim Hast inspired the retreatants with words of comfort and challenge.

The retreatants listened well.

They conversed at their tables over the nuggets of wisdom Fr Jim offered.

They enjoyed one another's company

It was a good day!

Volunteer Spirituality and Appreciation Day.
On Saturday, November 5th the wonderful men and women who volunteer their time and talents were "thanked" in a special way at our Volunteer Spirituality and Appreciation Day.

The day began with yummy treats from On the Rise Bakery!

Even the volunteers lent a hand. Thanks, Claire and Kathie!

Sally Mccuen led the group with a prayer.

Fr Jim Hast gave two inspiring talks on how volunteering is our way of making Christ known.

The lunch was bountiful and delicious. Thank you, Lakeland Manor & Beverly!

The conversation over lunch was an added delight!

Henry Ford Health System held their Spiritual/Cultural Retreat Day at the Solanus Casey Center on Tuesday, Sept 20. The day wove inspiring talks, quiet time, and liturgical dancers.

Some chose to be quiet in our Meditation Garden.

Some chose to spend time observing the inspiring artwork.

One feature of the day were the Fruits of the Spirit.

Another feature of the day is fellowship with other healers.

A delicious spread of food awaited them.

On Friday, June 24 The Gift Shop held its annual Inventory Day. Every item for sale in the gift shop both on display and in storage is accounted for. This is quite an undertaking but the football team from Divine Child was up for the challenge. In fact, these awesome young men completed the task in record time! Lisa, the Gift Shop manager, was grateful for their help.


Special thanks also goes to their coaches Jack Masserange and Bill Masserang for gathering the players for the big job.

Also thanks to Bernie and Sue Hoedl for making a great lunch. Special thanks also to Lynn and her daughter.

The friars and Joe lunched in support of the Inventory workers.

The Lenten Series has been well received. The Capuchins offer a noon mass followed by a light lunch of soup and bread with a spiritually nourishing reflection for 15 minutes on the topics related to Living Our Faith in Lent. Click HERE to see some pictures from the series.

St. Aloysius and St. Patrick's Retreat Day - April 2, 2011
Parishioners from these two faith-filled inner city churches visited the Solanus Center for a day retreat led by Fr. Jim Hast. The group reflected on the meaning of the crossing the Lenten desert and discovering God's blessings in our imperfections.
       
LENTEN REFLECTIONS - WEDNESDAYS
The response to the LENTEN REFLECTIONS has been tremendous. A good number of people come down to the Center for noon Mass, a bowl of delicious soup and bread, and to hear a 15 minute reflection on living out one's faith with the treasures of Lent better woven into one's life.

The 7th Annual Retreat Day at St. Bonaventure's on March 26, 2011 was truly inspirational. Fr. Tom Sepulveda from St. Anne's presented the retreatants will an excellent reflection on the Return of the Prodigal Son and opened up the dimensions of forgiveness from the point of view of the Prodigal Son, the Elder Son and the Loving Father.
