On Saturday, January 21 St Alexander Parish in Farmington brought 18 young men and women preparing for Confirmation to the Solanus Casey Center for a tour.

The group spent the morning serving at Gleaners.

Praying at Solanus' tomb was important to them.

They explored the Center on their own.

They placed their petitions on Venerable Solanus' tomb.

Confirmation students from St. Isaac Jogues visited the Solanus Casey Center on Friday, Jan 13. 45 young men and women and their chaperones took a tour of the Center.

After the tour they spent time in the chapel and wrote a letter to Jesus.

The enjoyed a brown bag lunch in our dining room.

After lunch some students went to the Gift Shop.

Their teacher provided them with a reflection page in which they went back throughout the Center in search of the answers.

On Friday, Jan. 6th 250 people from around the Detroit-metro area visited the Solanus Casey Center as part of a 9 Church Bus Tour.

They began their time in St. Bonaventure Chapel.

Br. Leo Wollenwebber spoke with the group and shared stories about Fr. Solanus as well as brought them uptodate with the status of his journey to canonization.

8th Graders from Our Lady Star of the Sea visited the Solanus Casey Center on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Carol, their docent, showed the students beautiful pewabic tiles depicting the Spiritual Works of Mercy.

The students loved the etched glass windows in the Hall of Saints.

Their tour opened up treasures.

They gathered to pray at Fr. Solanus' tomb.
Fifth graders from Huron Valley Catholic School visited the Solanus Casey Center on Friday, Dec. 9th. The children prayed the rosary in the Friars' Chapel and were thrilled to learn about the many relics that were on display on the altar.

They listened attentively to their docent, Miss Diane, who gave them a thorough tour and great information about Fr. Solanus.

Probably one of the most meaningful parts of their visit was their quiet prayer time at the tomb of Venerable Solanus Casey.

Wednesday, Nov. 30
Twenty-five Seniors from St. Patrick's in Portland ventured down to Detroit to offer their volunteer services at the Soup Kitchens and Service City. Before they headed out to do their good deeds, they nourished their inner spirit with a visit to the Solanus Casey Center.

Marcy gave them an excellent and prayerful tour.

They offered a prayer for Solanus Beatification.

Tuesday, Nov. 15
St Catherine of Siena and nearby parishes in Portage, MI visited the Solanus Casey Center. They enjoyed a tour, a catered lunch and celebrated Mass.

Our Lady of Hope - Sunday, Nov. 14
Confirmation students from Our Lady of Hope made a pilgrimage to the Solanus Center to hold their Confirmation Retreat.

The group of 55 8th graders took a short tour through the Center. Their tour highlighted the Beatitudes since a major portion of their Confirmation study centers around Jesus call to His disciples to witness the Beatitudes to the world.

They had a great lunch prepared by Culvers.

Their afternoon included a dynamic presentation by Deacon Mark.

They were able to enjoy one another's company.

Good Fellowship.

The Spirit was alive and well.







Gabriel Richard High School Sophomores -Friday, Nov. 11
The Sophomores utilized the Solanus Casey Center to hold their annual Sophomore Day Retreat. They examined the treasures of the Center as they toured the various pilgrimage sites.

They especially enjoyed the Beatitude Statues.

Part of their day included a lovely mass celebrated by Fr. Jim Hast.

The Sophomores loved the Church's architecture.


Shrine Grade School - Nov. 4, 2011
Fifth Graders from Shrine Grade School made a pilgrimage to the Solanus Casey Center on Friday, Nov. 4th. The began their visit with a mass celebrated by Fr. Jim Hast.

They had a wonderful tour with John, Jackie, Joan, and Sally.

They enjoyed their bag lunches in the dining room.

They also visited the Gift Shop and purchased treasures to take home.

They had more with a scavenger hunt.





Gabriel Richard High School - Service Trip Oct. 28, 2011
The Juniors and Seniors at Gabriel Richard High School stopped by the Solanus Casey Center on Friday morning on their way to serve lunch at the Meldrum Soup Kitchen. They posed with the Beatitude Statues as a sign of their commitment to live out the Beatitudes in their lives through service.

Lumen Christi High School - Jackson, MI

The Junior class from Lumen Christi High School visited the Center on Tuesday, Oct. 18 and Wednesday, Oct 19th.

They toured the Center and participated in identifying the Beatitude Statues.

They mingled with the famous people who brought the charism of the Beatitiudes to life.

On their tour they learned about the "Ghosted Church".

Their trip to the Solanus Center was a time to explore their faith.

And quietly reflect.

St Patrick Catholic School - Brighton, MI
56 students from St. Patrick Catholic School in Brighton, MI visited the Solanus Casey Center on Monday, Oct. 17.
Fr. Larry Webber encouraged the students to write letters for the bishops to take to the Pope for Solanus to be Beatified.

Bishop Hanchon celebrated Mass with the students and parent chaperones.

Vanessia volunteered her time to serve as a docent for the group.

Friday, Oct 14 - Ladywood Juniors
On Tuesday, Oct 11, Thursday, Oct 13 & Friday, Oct 14, Juniors from Ladywood came to the Solanus Casey Center for a retreat. They toured the Center, participated in Reconciliation, and held small group discussions. Their day concluded with Mass.
Fr. Jim Hast offered Mass with the Juniors in the small chapel.

Juliegha Norus served as the docent for Friday's group. She was delighted to lead them through the Center because she is a graduate of Ladywood. The teachers begged her to sing for them and she did a lovely job following through on their request.
Wednesday, Oct 12 - St. Martha's
Fuller Travel brought a lovely busload of pilgrims from St. Martha in Okemos, MI to visit the Solanus Casey Center on Wednesday, Oct 12. The group enjoyed a full day beginning with a short DVD of Solanus' life and a tour of the significant places throughout the Center.

After their tour they feasted on a hot and tasty turkey meal prepared by Lakeland Manor of St. Clair Shores.

The group stayed for the healing service and got bag loads of delicious bakery goods from On the Rise Bakery.




There were a couple of ladies that just didn't want to leave. Sally threatened to turn them into docents.

St Mary's from Wayne brought 45 seventh and eighth graders to visit the Solanus Casey Center on Friday, September 30.
The group toured the Creation Garden.

They were interested in Br. Wind.

The Beatitudes came alive.

On Friday, Sept 16 7th graders from the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield came to visit the Solanus Casey Center. They were given an informative tour by Juliegha, one of our young adult docents. Juliegha explained the life of Fr. Solanus in a manner inwhich the young folks could relate.
 
On Wednesday, August 24th a group of pilgrims set out from Ss Peter and Paul on the Westside to visit the Solanus Casey Center.

After a lovely tour by one of our friendly and informative docents, Marcy, the group enjoyed a tasty catered lunch of gourmet sandwiches, salad, and delicious desserts. The group also stopped by the Gift Shop and attended the Healing Service at 2 PM.

Lansing Diocese Seminarians visited the Solanus Casey Center on Friday, Aug. 19 for a pilgrimage. Bishop Boyea and Fr. John Linden accompanied the 26 men. Their pilgrimage consisted of a tour of the Center, liturgy, and lunch.

Loyola of Chicago sent a lovely group of rising seniors on Monday, July 18th to participate in a urban plunge experience in Detroit. At the beginning of their visit the group toured the Solanus Casey Center. After watching the informative video on Solanus' life, Br. Vito shared a bit about the Capuchin way of life.

On Saturday, July 16, Doris (one of our newest docents) lead a group of Confirmation students and their parents from St. Alfred's Parish on a tour. Doris brought the sculptures to life as she described the Canticle of the Sun by St. Francis of Assisi.

St. Ignatius Collegiate Prep from Illinois visited the Solanus Center on Thursday, June 16 as part of an urban plunge experience. They young adults had spent a good part of their week doing service work at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen and Warehouse.

One of our newest docents, Doris, offered the group a great deal of information to reflect on as they toured the Center.

They young adults were impressed by the beauty of the Center.

On Tuesday, May 31st 8th graders from St. Mary's in Pickney visited the Solanus Casey Center to learn more about Fr. Solanus and grow in their faith. They toured the Center and watched a fascinating video segment of Unsolved Mysteries in which Fr. Solanus' powerful intercessory prayer is highlighted.

Discovering the answers to the Scavenger Hunt is a learning experience.

The Beatitude Statues bring the traits of being Christ's disciple to life.

St. Hugo of the Hill's Altar Society visited the Solanus Center on Wednesday, June 1. They had a tour and enjoyed a delicious catered lunch. Here is a snapshot of the group as they are heading home. All smiles!

Traveling from Toronto, Canada, 21 pilgrims visited the Solanus Casey Center on Sunday, May 22 to share in Mass, a tour, a catered lunch of delicious vegetarian lasagna, and the Healing Service. The pilgrims were delighted with the time at the Solanus Center and plan to return with more pilgrims in the near future!
    
On Friday, May 20th a group of knitters from St. Joan of Arc in St. Clair Shores gathered for a tour. Our veteran docent, Vanessia, led the group on an informative and spiritually enriching journey through the Center.

Sacred Heart, Dearborn's 8th graders spent the day in service and theological reflection with the Capuchins on Friday, May 20th. First they toured the Solanus Casey Center. Second they spent three hours doing service at the Meldrum Soup Kitchen and Gleaners Food Bank. After lunch at the Soup Kitchen, they came back to the Solanus Casey Center and spend a good portion of the afternoon participating in an exercise that helped to bring home the day's experiences.

Spiritus Sanctus Academy's 6th graders visited the tomb of Venerable Solanus Casey on Thursday, May 12. They showed loving reverence for the Fr. Solanus as they laid their rosaries and holy items on his tomb.

The young men and women offered their prayers and petitions for Fr. Solanus' intercession to Our Lord.

St Andrew Parish from Rochester, MI recently had a well attended pilgrimage at the Solanus Casey Center. Fifty-five pilgrims took part in a tour, mass, catered lunch and a spiritually rich Healing Service. The pilgrims departed from the Center refreshed in spirit.

They explored the Exhibit Hall where the artifacts from Fr Solanus' life are on display.

Sixth graders from Our Lady of Victory Parish in Northville visited the Solanus Casey Center on Thursday, May 5th. After a lovely Mass celebrated by Fr. Larry Webber in the St. Bonaventure Chapel, the students were led on a tour of the Center. After lunch they worked on an activity sheet that had them revisit various sites in the Center and dig a little deeper.

St. Hugo of the Hills 7th graders visited the Solanus Casey Center for a tour, mass, and a brown bagged lunch. The young folks enjoyed hearing the stories about Fr. Solanus and watching the DVD about his life in the auditorium.
They broke for lunch and had a chance to chat.

They had wonderful participation!

Thursday, April 27 - All Saints Catholic School brought 60 fifth graders to learn more about Fr. Solanus Casey. They had a lovely mass celebrated by Fr. Larry Webber, toured the Center, and lunched on their brown bag lunches.
     
Wednesday, April 27 - Joe Zack brought a wonderful group of pilgrims from Wisconsin to spend the day at the Solanus Casey Center. They especially enjoyed the Healing Service and their catered porkchop lunch.

Wednesday, April 20 - Bianco Tours brought a bus filled with pilgrims to the Center for a tour, catered lunch and an opportunity to participate in the Healing Service.

St. Paul on the Lake from Grosse Pointe, MI brought 58 fifth graders and 23 chaperones to visit the Center on Monday, April 18th. The boys and girls listened attentively to the docents who explained the Beatitude Statues and the artifacts of Fr. Solanus. They took part in a scavenger hunt and visited the Gift Shop.
Miss Sally tells the children the story of how Fr. Solanus came to be the Porter of St. Bonaventure. Everyone is amazed at Fr. Solanus' large family. The story of Fr. Solanus' life is captivating.
The children were fascinated with the Beatitude Statues They wanted to take a second look at the display case with Fr. Solanus' notebook which records the favors granted through his prayers.
The Academy of the Sacred Heart visited the Solanus Casey Center for a pilgrimage on Wednesday, April 13th. The young women had a tour and some shopped at the Gift Shop. One of the highlights of their visit was exploring the Creation Garden and learning about the Sheep's Gate.

Ninety fourth graders and 30 mom's and dad's from St. Michael's in Livonia visited the Solanus Casey Center on Friday, April 8th for a tour, scavenger hunt activity and a brown bag lunch in our dining room. The snap shots below demonstrate their love of the Center.

Shelby Senior Center visited the Center on Friday, April 1. They feasted on a delicious Fish and Chips luncheon and were treated to an in depth tour of the Center.
 
St. Thecla Catholic School in Clinton Township visited the Center on Monday, March 28th. The 8th graders brought canned food for the poor and offered it to the Capuchins as a donation. The young men and women celebrated liturgy with Fr. Webber and had a tour of the Center.

St. Agnes in Sanford visited on Sunday, February 27th

The young people from St. Agnes in Sanford, MI enjoyed their pilgrimage on Sunday, February 27. They celebrated a lovely mass with Fr Jim Hast and feasted on a delicious catered lunch before they took part in a tour of the Center.




Questers of Michigan visited the Solanus Casey Center for a tour on Friday, February 4. The group is being led by our wonderful docent, Diane.

St. Mary Magdalen from Hazel Park visited the Solanus Casey Center on Tuesday, Jan. 25. Fr. Bedde celebrated Mass for the group in the chapel and they enjoyed a delicious gourmet lunch.

St. Isaac Jogues 8th graders visited the Solanus Center on Friday, Jan 14. They explored the Center by way of a guided tour and celebrated Mass in the St. Bonaventure Chapel.
 
Boy Scouts from Macomb County visited the Solanus Center on Sunday, January 23rd, 2011. They joined the Sunday Worship Community for 9 AM Mass and then toured the Solanus Casey Center.
 The scouts explored the treasures in the Exhibit Hall. The Boy Scouts wrote their prayers and placed them on the tomb.

November 9, 11, 12-2010 Ladywood High School Junior Retreat

The Junior's of Ladywood High School in Livonia, MI utilized the sacred space of the Fr. Solanus Casey Center for their fall retreat. The girls took a guided tour of the Center, viewed The Heroic Journey DVD on Venerable Solanus' life, celebrated mass and participated in guided meditation, confession, and discussion groups.

The Beatitudes were a favorite gathering spot for the young ladies of Ladywood.

Some of the juniors choose to explore the Exhibit Hall at the Center.

Venerable Solanus' tomb is a prayerful space where heartfelt requests are written out and laid on the tomb.
NOVEMBER 8 - 2010 Holy Family Parish's Confirmation Students!
Confirmation students from Holy Family parish in Grand Blanc visited the Center on Monday, November 8th. After arriving they celebrated mass with Fr. Larry Webber, had a guided tour, and took part in a Scavenger Hunt. This group picture was taken under the Ghosted Church shortly before they headed home.

One highlight of their visit was praying at Venerable Solanus' tomb.

Saturday, Nov. 6th - Secular Franciscans from Ohio.
Three Secular Franciscan groups from Toledo, Ohio came to visit the Center on Saturday November 6. They had time for personal reflection, Confessions, lunch and a guided pilgrimage through the Center before they left. They took a picture with the Statue of Solanus near the Hall of Saints.

Member of St. Gregory Parish from here in Detroit had a morning of recollection and brunch here at the Solanus Casey Center. This is the third year in a row that they have chosen to come - and said they are looking forward to coming back again next year.

Daily we get small groups of visitors at the Center. This group came through one day in September

Some days, we get people from all over the world. One day this past month we had people from Ireland, Mexico and France. Another day we had visitors from Lebanon and took a picture with them.
